The Living Art of Mary Louise..Town Jaqua
Contemporary, impressionistic paintings of Maine and her people

Bold, bright, and brilliant are words that aptly describe Jaqua's work. She is a multi-talented artist who is an oil painter at heart, but is equally comfortable with the disciplines of watercolor, pastel, gouache, and acrylic. Her early career as a muralist explains Jaqua's love for painting on the grand scale.

Jaqua received her formal art training at the Cleveland Institute of Art, Cleveland, Ohio, where she graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. She began her professional career as a mural artist. After seven years of commission work, Jaqua transitioned into pursuing her own fine art. At this time, she discovered a love for oil painting.

Throughout thirty five years as a painter, Jaqua's work has been enthusiastically received by critics and public alike. Her paintings have been recognized in the form of favorable reviews, published credits, honors scholarships, art fellowships, and numerous awards. Her work was featured in the May 1978 issue of 'American Artist' magazine. Notable collections of her work include the Ford Motor Company, The Breakers Hotel, The Fountaine Bleu Hilton Hotel, MBNA, and Dr. Richard Rockefeller.

Since relocating to Maine in 1984, Jaqua has become a popular Maine artist. She has exhibited in art shows and galleries across the state. She is best known for her vibrant landscapes and florals of Maine that are rich in texture and almost phosphorescent in color. Her distinct style is often compared to that of the late impressionists, especially Van Gogh and Bonnard. Recently she added figurative work to her portfolio.

Jaqua has studied and traveled Europe and Scandinavia and is an active member of the Waterville Area Art Society.
