Later on he would try his hand at it. Their tradition of drawing together would continue over the years and soon it was father watching son in wonder. Those much cherished times for Anatoly were abruptly halted by WWII. With father off at the front, Anatoly, his sister Alexandra, and mother were forced to flee their home ahead to Nazi invasion. They wondered aimlessly and endured unthinkable hardships. Ending up in a small Armenian village, they were given shelter by a loving family. The three of them would remain there, safe, until 1944. Returning to their home in the Ukraine, they found only utter destruction. Forced to share a barren basement with two other families, their suffering would continue. But through it all, when he could, Anatoly would draw. Later, in 1950, Anatoly was finally able to start his schooling and early artistic training. Studying locally at first, he would go on to attend Leningrad's Munchin Art Institute and then back to the Institute of Fine Art in Kharkov, Ukraine. Over those years, he refined his "gift" and was rewarded, meeting Laura, the love of his life. They married in 1958 and had their only child, Elena, in 1962. In 1964, he reached the pinnacle of the Soviet art world, becoming a member of the Artist's Union. The Dverin arrived in New York in July 1976. For most of the last two decades, Anatoly has been painting for himself. Fluent in both pastel and oil, he has received much acclaim. The landscapes, still lifes, and portraits are adequate testament to his great skill. Perhaps, at first, it is hard to imagine how such beautiful paintings can come from a man who has suffered through so much. When seen in person, his canvas are playful, with thousands of bits dazzling color in combinations only Anatoly can imagine..They are celebrations of life.
